We walked over to The Forum, which is part of Ancient Rome. The Forum is a small open rectangle surrounded by the ruins of ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. It was for centuries the center of Roman public life: the site of triumphal processions and elections, for public speeches and gladiatorial matches etc.
Located in the small valley between the Palatine and Capitoline Hills, the Forum today is a sprawling ruin of architectural fragments and archeological excavations.
Caesar’s body was burned here in 44 BC. The citizens gathered here on Rome's main square to hear Mark Antony say; in Shakespeare's words,
"Friends, Romans, countrymen... lend me your ears, I have come to bury Caesar, not to praise him." But the Republic was finished and Rome became the grand capital of a grand empire. It is very cool! We pretty much hit “Ancient Rome” today.
