We got up early to catch the train to Florence.
Fifteenth-century Florence was the home of the Renaissance and birthplace of our modern Western world. The city that pulled Europe out of the middle Ages, known as the City of art. Renaissance was the age of humanism.
Before the Renaissance era the only art that was legitimate was art that only glorified God. It sat deep in the corners of churches and came with a bible story. When Rome fell Europe fell into darkness. There was little learning, commerce or travel.
Then in the 1400's there was a Renaissance in Florence, a rebirth of the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome. It started in Florence and swept across Europe.
The Medici family ruled Florence in the Renaissance Era.

Michael has a friend and client that lives just outside of Florence. Massimo (The guy that got us the good deal on our hotel in Rome). He met us at the train station in Florence and we went to “Scudreri’s” (World famous for their pastries and coffee) He and Michael talked mostly business and he told us of things to see and do in Italy! He is a very nice guy! Michael said that I met him in Barcelona, Spain but I don’t remember there were a lot of Microsoft people there then. He had to catch the train into Rome for a meeting so we said good bye at the center of town.
Wow what impressive buildings here! It is beautiful. There are a ton of tourists here though!
