The banner declares — in Latin — Tu es
Petrus.. "You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church." This is the scriptural basis for primacy of Rome in the Catholic Church. An elevator takes you to the base of the dome for a close-up look at those huge letters and a heavenly perspective into the church. We were up here during a mass!
We climbed the 320 steps to the top of the dome (an elevator takes you up the first 320) of St. Peters! At certain points it’s tilted, (Because it’s a dome you are climbing) it’s a 360 degree view from the dome over the Vatican and out into Rome, showing most of Vatican City. I took pictures of the statues on top of St. Peters from the back it was cool!

You can see in the pictures the climb was at
an angel because it’s a dome.
